Who am I

Who am I

A Poem by Warren L.G De Mills

Who am I but no-one at all
It seems my greatest fear
Becomes my darkest fall
Because it seems I'm no-one at all

What am I but something small
My life my mind my soul
Means nothing in this world
My silent lips speak nothing at all

Why am I placed in this world
With a billion others, a billion mothers
All sob and wail for sons like me
And they all make just another, son like me

Who am I that you are mindful
What am I that you should care
My existence is trivial and frightful
I am, son of no-one, born nowhere

What is it to be satisfied in this life
If everything fades , if it is all fake?
If I am just another one of you
Then why should I live, for life's sake?

How am I to cope with this life
If existence is just breathing
Yet meaning is found in mere being
Why should I even struggle with strife?

It seems there is no meaning in here
If you are already there
If I can't bring something new
They're better off with you

The love of a mother is never to be underestimated. I believe each child is a blessing and a gift. Every life have a purpose. I wanted death years ago. Today I have many that depend on me. There is a plan for us. We must live a life to know what is in the cards for us. I like this poem. Open the doors to many good questions. For every death in war. A mother tear's is falling. A family is suffering. My daughter lost her baby girl of nine years old three years ago. She is my thoughts daily and the mother must find a a way to live with the loss. Thank you for the amazing poetry.

very insightful poem. has existential elements...the whys, etc. these are reflections that would consume me. i know what its like to feel so miniscule in the scheme of things and in the universe...i often ask that question who am I? this is a great poem. i can relate to it. beautifully written.

You ask some interesting questions, Warren, some I've probably asked myself. I think the reasons we live, aren't meant to be known in this life. We must learn to trust that it is all part of a big plan.

Wooow, this is intense. But in a really, really amazing way. I love that you've dug deep into your thoughts and emotions to put this together. I can relate when I sit and think about who I am and my self worth.
A part that really stuck out to me:
"It seems my greatest fear
Becomes my darkest fall"
This is a wonderful read and write. :)

wow, I was struck by these words. Very good job, it resonates. I felt this cage of senseless entrapment that was created with those words. I need to read more of your poems

Life is not meant to be lived for our enjoyment, rather for the enjoyment of the creator. Life is but a glimpse of what is to come for those who follow the All Mighty One.
Life can be tiresome and down right painful. We suffer ourselves the inhumanities of our kind by our own hand and when it all seems as though it is about to crumble, we realize just how precious life really is. For those who have come late to this revelation they find themselves lost among thorns.
