**Mother Nature's Lament**
Mother Nature weeps, her heart worn and tired, By the flames of progress, her spirit skies once pure now clouded with tears, Echoing sorrow of countless years. *Why do you drill, baby drill, for oil that's buried deep?* *Do you not hear my cries, the oceans' mournful weep?* Forests once lush now barren and dry, Creatures in peril, left asking why. The earth shakes with fury, the ice caps retreat, Rising waters march with relentless beat. *How long can you ignore the signs so clear,* *The fate of your children’s future so near?* Heatwaves blaze, glaciers dissolve in time, Seas encroach, swallowing coasts in brine. The winds howl in anger, storms twist and twirl, *Will you not heed the warning, save our precious world?* In fields and valleys, crops wither in pain, Rivers run scarce, parched by endless strain. *Can you not see the toll on all that lives,* *The balance of life, the gifts she gives?* Innocent nations suffer, their voices unheard, Third world struggles, their cries deferred. *Why must they bear the burden they did not create,* *While richer lands plunder and dictate their fate?* Critics shout, policy's unwise refrain, Short-term gains, long-term strain. *Why forsake the path of green salvation,* *For fleeting wealth, at the cost of creation?* Renewable sources, a promise of light, Solar, wind, to end the fight. *Can we not embrace this hope so bright,* *And steer away from endless night?* Mother Nature pleads, her patience thin, *When will you cherish the world you're in?* *Will you not protect the land you hold,* *And breathe new life, brave and bold?* Together we can turn the tide, Restore the beauty she hides inside. *So pause and ponder the steps we take,* *Before it's too late, for all our sake. © 2025 Wanzala MeshackAuthor's Note
