I don't remember growing older

I don't remember growing older

A Poem by WanderingJane

I don't remember growing older

Yesterday there was us

Snuggling in the cold

Sitting on the back steps in your arms

Sharing a first kiss outside the door

But

Everything is changing while the day sky stays blue

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday, I was in love with you

Yesterday you sent me that text

you said you had another girl

It was a Monday

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday I texted you

I begged you to take me back

I was still in love with you

I was afraid I always would be

because to me our love would last forever

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday, I didn’t even think of you

My yesterdays must have added up

to this new life without you close

I hate to say it, but it’s true

I don’t really think of you

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday there was me and him

Swinging in the park

Wrapped in each other’s arms

Sharing more than just one kiss

But

Everything is changing while the day sky stays blue

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday, I was loved by him

Yesterday I sent him a text

I told him to meet me in the park

I couldn’t see him anymore

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday I broke his heart

I know he still loves me

I am afraid he always will

because I know our love wouldn’t last forever

I don’t remember growing older

Yesterday, I thought of you

here I am with 2,190 yesterdays later

all since I said goodbye to you

Today, 6 years later

I still love you

but what is love really?

I am so confused

I don’t remember getting older

and not going anywhere without you

I like how you number the days and describe the specific things that snag in your memory.

Time can be a demon. Move so quickly. We won't know till it is too late.

I understand the above lines. Things gone. Old regret, we can't forget. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
