She Awoke

She Awoke

A Poem by WanderingJane

When she woke up from her coma
everything had changed
but it was not a coma, not really
not in the typical scene

She was raised in a different reality
one where she was told to please
to muffle her personal desires

One day something clicked
she woke up from the coma
maybe it was because of her life long depression
maybe it was because everyone she knew had woken up first
maybe just got fed up with the endless cycle

Either way, when it clicked
She started to make the change
She was awake for the first time
out of a depressive cycle of people pleasing
into a place where she pleased herself and said her thoughts
If the people loved her they would understand

Many people get lock-up and a self-made coma.
One day something clicked
"she woke up from the coma
maybe it was because of her life long depression
maybe it was because everyone she knew had woken up first
maybe just got fed up with the endless cycle"
The above lines are true for the many of us. We awake one day and learn. We did nothing useful and must find a better path and place. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
