Watching the World

Watching the World

A Poem by No one
"

Don't forget to look out the window.

"

No one wants to know

No one cares to know

What's going on

outside of

his window

I've been watching the world

everyone tries to look busy

busy

While they're running in circles

making themselves dizzy

dizzy

They're standing in line

waiting for a sign

from the gathering storm

But lightning kills the night

Stupid superstitions

are

obscuring intuiton

Everyone is ignorant

but no one knows

what they're missing

Thunder is mistaken

for

the sound of the sky breaking

Which sends people into flight

Roaches from the light

The city's burning down, down, down

the city's burning

down

down

down

Everybody run!

Hide underground!

Me, I'll just play my guitar

even if I'm all alone

in Moscow

or Baghdad

Or in ancient Rome

No one cares to know

No one dares to know

The real world's burning

down

outside of that window.

Author's Note

No one
Another song. The words 'no one' are incidental and do not in fact refer to me. Or maybe they do. I'm not sure anymore.

hmmmn. i wondered if there was a songster in you. you are a mysterious and fortuitous coincidence in my day.

this doesn't seem to flow:
As they're standing in line
waiting for a sign
from the gathering storm
But lightning kills the night

maybe:
They stand in line
wait for a sign
from the gathering storm
But lightning kills the night

we are urban cavemen, si? avoiding the situations outside our safe door-fires but then when we do, we are overwhelmed by the vastness what difference can we make but it's one starfish at a time.

edit: and i gave you a 100 rating but the insane system here won't log it that way until my opinion is confirmed by at least seven others. we did the experiment.

Reality can be a tough pill for most to swallow.

I felt this poem.

Thank you.

I really wish I could actually hear this in song-form. I can hear the melody, but I wonder what its intended melody is. A reader can only infer so much.
When read, this sounds wonderful. It really is very pretty, the words seem something more than poetic.
Great song.

We're pretty lucky that the religious factor didn't protest against lightning rods on buildings ['the wrath of god'] or lots more of us would be getting fried these days.
Your lyrics sparked off that thought, so I figured I'd share.

Quite like the idea of those "no one"s referring to you referring to yourself in the third person; it invokes pity and appeals in a cute kind of way, y'know?
Prefer it as meaning everyone. We're all No ones, right?

I think this is a decent song. You made good use of repetition without overdoing it.
Thanks for sharing.

wow - i liked this - i picture a fast tempo to it.

But that's just me.

I'm not sure why but I liked this repetitive tone,
""The city's burning down, down, down

the city's burning

down

down

down

Everybody run!""

Absolutely awesome and quite true and relevant. This is such a great piece...and to find out it's a song is even better. Love the accompanying pic...so that's YOU playing the guitar?? : ) This piece is extremely sad, because it's true. Excellent piece....I'd love to hear it.

There are people who watch the tornado coming and those who latch the cellar door.
Beautiful
glad you are a tornado watcher too.
only way to see a green sky....

I really, really like this. It's so consequential.....and for the most part very true. Most people are content to watch the world go by and do nothing to incite change.
