Like That

Like That

A Poem by Jennifer Hopkins

I liked the florid embers
Dancing through the uncut ditch grass
As we laughed over the music
In your car.

In your car.

I swear I can romanticize anything
And some things are just too good
To pass up.

To pass up.

And when you looked at me
And smiled,
I can't say I knew exactly
What you were thinking because
I'm not telepathic.

I'm not telepathic.

But I knew that I could be
Anything I wanted
Because of the look in those eyes.
I knew that no matter
What you say
Or I do
I will always love you
Because I think you're perfect
Like that.

Like that.

I liked the florid embers
Dancing through the uncut ditch grass
As we laughed over the music
In your car.

In your car.
