Second Helpings

Second Helpings

A Poem by Jennifer Hopkins
"

Old.

"
I do not need this
Second helping of guessings.
This is not Thanksgiving
And I am not giving thanks
For knowing what I want
Or for knowing what I understand.
How far I understand.

I have lived
And lived
And lived
My life the entire time
I've been alive.
Which means that no one
Else
Has known me as long
And I know that I understand
Every
Situation
I get myself into.
Every one of them.

How is it that my years
Were so much longer
Than others'?

How is it that I can be so
Strong,
Sure,
And full,
While not knowing what I'm talking about?

I understand being scared,
But I will not speak to these second guessings.
