MoralsA Poem by SkyeA
paycheck. A bill. How much do I owe? House
mortgage. Loan interest. Debt
keeps compounding. Suffering
and drowning with hearts that won’t heal. What
can you give me? I’ll take the store credit. Tell
me the cost with discounts, a bargain.
No,
darling, we don’t have time for the slide. Return
that new blouse with the tag still sewn. Mommy
can’t read, dear, she’s busy til midnight. Daddy’s
accepted a new double shift. Don’t
wait up. I’m too tired. I’m working. Please,
quiet your singing. Please, no dancing in here. Don’t
write on that, honey, I need it for Monday. Eat
less and you may have a hope for tuition. Clean
the pen off your hands. Put that book away. Your
school work is heinous, Who
flunks history?
Don’t
speak until spoken. Your opinion is wrong. Interrupting
adults will lead to a grounding. Act
your age, mind your manners. My
house means my rules. What
I say is right, still, I
love you, I do. Tell
me the truth. What do you mean by depressed? All
that I give you, is it all trash?
Responsibility’s
crucial. You’re useless alone. Lacking
maturity. You’re never home. Graduation,
then you’ll accept your diploma. And
make life decisions from these truths I’ve imparted. © 2015 SkyeReviews
