A Darkened Desert

A Darkened Desert

A Poem by Martin Ramirez

I look out a window,
But all I can see is
A darkened, vague desert.

A tree with dead leaves
lies with no shadows
in front of my house.

I see other homes,
But there are no people.

And in the reflection
in my window,
like a mirror,
I see myself lost
In a darkened desert.

Author's Note

Martin Ramirez
I wanted to write something, and there was a contest asking for poems about things outside of windows. Also, I wanted to have some practice with metres.
