One: The DreamerA Chapter by WabbajackFormerly known as 'To wet my appetite for wetting yours.'The man was getting old, and he knew it. Vampyre, Nosferatu, those names meant nothing to him now. Of all the silly wives tales, Cethin Garnok couldn’t imagine why anyone would actually believe that he could live forever. He was in his seventies, and just as old and wrinkled as anyone else his age. He sat in his warm, soft recliner, watching the meteorologist on T.V. announce an unusual cloud that was forming above New York City. “Storm of the Century my a*s!” he grouched. “If you had grown up with me, you’d have seen storms so big they could consume a whole damned nation. Or dragons large enough to eat your fabled Tyrannosaurus Rex in a single gulp!” But the television set didn’t seem concerned with Garnok’s irritability. The phone, on the other hand, did. It rang twice before the pale skinned man answered. It was the Bureau. “What do you want, Paul. I’m retired.” “This will only take a moment,” came the voice from the other end. Garnok rolled his blood red eyes. “Can it wait? I’m about to eat dinner.” “Alex is dead.” As Garnok let out a moan of anguish, food was suddenly less important to him. “No. Does Draco know?” “I think so, sir, his body was found next to hers.” “Well don’t be coy, you stupid ingrate, tell me what happened!” “We don’t know yet, but an investigation is underway in Boone, Iowa. Something went wrong, something involving wolves.” The elderly vampire let out a low, guttural growl. “Paul, as of this moment you take orders directly from me, is that understood?” “Yes sir.” “Paradox Cycles be damned!” he grumbled, “Protocol be damned! I’m ordering you to contact the Court of Madness and tell them you need a road built directly to my Dreamer. No buts!” “Sir?” “Damn it, Paul! It’s all gone out of control and must be stabilized! The only hope left is that Daniel Gorman will send someone to help with the war!” “Wait,” Paul replied, sounding confused, “which war?” Garnok shook his head in disgust. His pride would have to wait, because no matter what, he needed his Dreamer’s help. “All of them.” he snarled. © 2012 WabbajackAuthor's Note
