You Are...A Poem by Ian FarawayA passion filled poem, I'm sureA gentle hand To touch a soft cheek Eyes struggling To fight back the tears “My friend,” I say “My life.” Voice cracks As if trying to stop the words Stare deeply Into the eyes I’ve come to love Her eyes Look back with the same emotion “I’ve walked the darkness alone In search of light.” Mind races To find the right words “I’ve been in the cold alone In search of warmth” Heart thumps As the secrets slowly come out “My world has been burned down by pain” All the while She keeps looking into my eyes In search of something “Only to be rebuilt By magic I can’t explain.” She smiles As my voice becomes a whisper “I’ve found my light in the darkness. I’ve found warmth in the cold. And my world is more magnificent Than it was before.” A tear is shed And slides slowly down her cheek I choke back my own As I wipe hers away “You are my light. You are the warmth. You are my world.” Her eyes become watery again A moment of silence That brief, perfect moment She is perfect An angel in the eyes of a sinner One last stroke To a teary cheek “I love you.” This time, a tear comes to my eye I spoke the words softly Worried about what I had said Deep down Words cannot do my feelings justice But then a hand against my face To keep me from looking away Her hands so tender Her eyes filled with passion The words I only dreamt of hearing Coming from her soft lips “I love you, too© 2010 Ian FarawayReviews
