A Little Bit Political

A Little Bit Political

A Story by Ian Faraway

Here’s a little history lesson for you. In the early 1900s there was a gap… a gap

between poor and rich. The economy boomed while the backbone of this achievement

struggled to make ends meet. Of course, I’m talking about the poor. Many who worked in

Company Towns owed the factories and ended up giving the wages they received back to

the managers. This is to make sure they never left the company, never became rich. It

was a dark time in America’s economic light.

Is it so different from today? Times are hard, yes. But there will still room for

growth for the poor. But why? Why is today’s economy becoming so bad? So unstable?

Would you find it strange if I made the connection between this and dirty politics?

Look back towards the elections, all the ads you saw on TV. Every single one

started off with “facts” about another candidate that is meant to destroy reputation to

ensure they don’t win. I’ll give you an example, one I’ll make up with the same

principles involved.

“Tom Bukes raised this state’s taxes last year after he promised he would drop

them. In his last election, he said he was for the people and wanted to create more

jobs. Tom Bukes does not speak for the people. Linda Ferr on the other hand works

closely with the working class to get better wages while lowering taxes. Vote for Linda

Ferr, the person FOR the people.”

Tempting isn’t it? They provide quotes and ‘work citations’ to use against a

candidate. You don’t find a reason NOT to trust the person who spoke against another

candidate. So you view that candidate as trustworthy while the one they spoke against is

now evil in your eyes. But there’s a flaw in this system. The fact is that it came from a

CANDIDATE. They’ll do anything to destroy one another’s reputation and ensure they get

elected. You should never trust their word for it.

For me, I need to know two sides to a story. I can’t just draw a conclusion based

on one side because it’ll lead to being completely wrong. Unless you’re one of those

people who gets lucky.  So do research, people. It’s not a hard thing to do. Keep in

mind, also, that people make mistakes. It’s as simple as that. When we look at political

figures we expect them to be flawless but truth is no one is flawless. Just keep that in

mind but don’t take it as a candidate can steal and be ok.

People sometimes ask me if I’m a democrat or a republican. Truth? I’m an

independent. Yeah go ahead and make fun or insult. But I refuse to take a side on an

ongoing war. Yes, war! Both parties are too busy trying to cut each other’s throats that

they can’t solve a damn thing to help this country. My grandfather said he remembered

a time when politicians would disagree but when they were out of the office or not

working, they’d go and have drinks together. There is such a thing as ‘agree to

disagree’, which I believe to be a moral all politicians can look up to.

I’m not saying politics or politicians are evil. But the name of the game is power.

That’s all it has ever been and ever will be. To be in the position of power and possible

opportunities for more money gives a politician a false sense of happiness. God only

knows why?

If I were ever to go into politics, I’d do it because the people need someone to

speak for THEM. Their needs turned into a helping hand and their wants reviewed with a

close eye.

Now to conclude this random, unorganized piece of writing, I will give an

example of bad politics:

The town I live in laid off 7 teachers from my school

alone last year. In that same year we received Mac Books and new computers. Right now

we’re getting a paved road with nice little flowers and a rotary to control traffic. They

can’t afford teachers but they can afford Macs. I wish I could give a number on how

many we received but unfortunately, there’s too many to count. Bad call.

Bad politics and decisions don’t just occur in our national government or

Washington D.C. but can be local as well. For me, I believe the superintendent and

school board has their heads too far up their a*s to see that they’re unreasonable and

completely ruining our community.

I know a lot of people won’t agree with this write and it’s a step backwards

from what I write but it’s what I know to be true. Dirty politics is ruining our government

and just thinking about choosing which party I want to be in makes me want to take a

shower to get clean.

My philosophy is from the old saying when you point a finger at someone there are FOUR pointing back at you. I kinda think if you are a lawyer OR a politician and your lips are moving your ARE lying and to paraphrase old Ben Franklin. We need a OPEN SEASON on them. And if that is politically incorrect TOO BAD.
