Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Ian Faraway

“So you love hate her?” My friend’s voice came from behind me.” I could understand that. But she’s different now. She’s changed, even though I don’t know how.”

“You would know better than me, Kenny. I only had that one talk with her and it wasn’t really a friend reunion. You hung out with her more than me anyways.” I said as I sat on the bench at a table looking out across the open baseball field. “What happened anyways?”

“Well, we started talking about her tattoo and what she was doing when a guy nearby sort of walked up to her and asked ‘Is that a tattoo? You have to be 18 to get one you know. Are you 18?’ Clearly this guy wanted to get into her pants.” I picked that up as soon as my friend quoted the man with ‘Is that a tattoo?’.” She was oblivious to the fact that 1) this guy is almost 30 and she is 19. And 2) the guy only wants to get in her pants.” Kenny seemed a bit frustrated as he continued the story.” The guy kept making these jokes about him and his pals having sex with her. How could she be so stupid to not see this? Shouldn’t she be use to guys hitting on her?” Well, that goes without saying.

Sarah has always been flirted with by a lot of guys, and to let this one say things and not notice seemed a bit strange.”Then he asked her out to a friend of his bonfire.” I made a face.” And she said ‘yes’.” I rubbed my temples slowly.

“How could Sarah be so stupid!?” I said in a very harsh and almost yelling voice. Of course I cared for her and hated her but it’s been ages since I’ve seen her. The only time I did last was at the library yesterday.” Are you two talking now?” I saw Kenny pulled out his cell and start texting.

“Yeah, she’s talking about the bonfire right now. She’s going a bit later tonight.” Kenny said slowly to keep up with his concentration on clicking buttons.

“Well, try to talk her out of it. I don’t care what it takes, the last thing I need is her getting hurt.” Kenny looked up from his phone as he placed it on the table.

“How come you haven’t talked to her?” He asked suspiciously.

“Because… there’s complications.” I replied carefully.

“Like what?” He asked. Well, him and I knew Sarah and her problems. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to reveal a bit more.

“Well, she made a promise a few months back. And I’m not one to annoy someone to fulfill a promise they made. If they made the promise then they have to keep it.” I replied looking down.

“I see. So she hasn’t kept to that promise?” He asked.

“Not exactly,” I admitted,” but if she ever needs anything I’ll be right here. You know it’s almost a shame, she keeps putting herself in these situations and she constantly does it this to herself. How can I just stand by for so long and watch this?”

“What are you waiting for then, man?” He asked curiously.

“I’m waiting for her to realize that we care about her and will do anything for her. We can’t help her if she doesn’t acknowledge that we can help. Or even if she doesn’t think she needs help. When she realizes this, then we can help her. But until then…” My voice trailed off.

“You really do love her, don’t you?” He asked softly.

“Yeah,” I replied in almost a whisper,” I really do man.” A few tears dripped from my eyes. I looked at him and nodded.” I just hope that she realizes it soon because waiting is starting to kill me. Not that it’ll make a difference and have me with her any time soon.

“That is the most empathy I have ever seen you show before. I use to take you for just a player. But I’m happy to say I’m wrong.” He smiled slightly and I nodded slowly.

“Yeah.”

There were a few minutes of silence.” Did you want a sexual relationship or emotional kind?” The question surprised me.

“If you mean have her in a relationship, then yes. For sexual only? Then probably not. I was never one for sex. I just want to hold her, man. I don’t care about the rest. Just give me a lasting relationship with her.” I looked towards the sky as I finished the sentence saying it as if it’s more of a wish then just me saying it to Kenny.” I just wish I could stop with this pain because it’s killing me more than it has to, man.”

“Well, what can you do? I liked her but she’s changed. You like her but you don’t know where you’re going with her yet. One second you want to stab her multiple times, the other you want to hold her. But think on the bright side, she’s not around long enough to do lasting damage.” He smiled and I joined in slightly.” Oh, by the way, man. I hear she’s going to be attending the play.”

My fists hit the table,” What?” It was summer but the temperature on my face went up well into the 100s. Why the hell is she doing this to me? I regained my composure and looked at Kenny,” Yeah, well. Whatever. As soon as the play’s over I’ll just leave and I’ll be too busy acting to notice her.”

Kenny nodded,” I’ll distract her so you have time to run for it.” I smiled.

“Always have my back don’t ya, Kenneth?” I smiled.

“Always, Dakotakins.” He smiled evilly. Damn his inside jokes and his nicknames for me.

I smiled and shook my head. A loud beep went off and I sighed. I reached a hand into my pocket and got my phone. I flipped the phone opened and saw it was a text message, from Sarah Ryder. My blood started boiling. I closed my eyes and calmed down a bit. I read the short message that read "We need to talk, meet me at the Cafe downtown."

I looked at Kenny and he frowned." I got to go settle something. Um, I'll see you at rehearsal tonight. Bye!" I ran off with him just shaking his head. He knew who it was from and I knew he knew.

This is the only error "Because… there’s complications.” I replied carefully." that you should be putting "there are complications". Other then that excellent chapter. I wish I knew who he knew but, anyways this was a interesting chapter. Too bad we can't just fast forward you life to see what's up.

Wow. I think this is quite possibly the only book I have ever read every single word to and not just skipped around to parts that seemed interesting.
This is amazing(:
There are a few minor mistakes, but other than that, this is great!
