Dark PassengerA Poem by Ian FarawayHe's the passenger beside me One hand on the wheel Refusing to leave me be He rides with an eerie appeal A shadow body and red eyes to see He's always riding shotgun And he's enjoying the ride Although he hates the sun He's become my closest, and only, ally Because there's no where to run On a day where the sun shines He'll show his true menacing self With a roar, he'll throw down the blinds The rage is enough to kill oneself Because I don't want anyone else to find Find the darkness in my passenger or Should I say the darkness in me Because it's like a never ending war But I'll never let anyone else see The dark passenger pounding on my door He wants to take the wheel And sometimes I start to lose control Because I like the way the rage feels So I convince myself he makes me whole But hide it cause I know it doesn't appeal I never let him in the driver's side In fact, I'm scared to let him do it Because I know he'll derail and crash the ride And cut all my "progress" into tiny bits I guess me and him will always collide But it makes me think and worry If we'll just go around and around Or I'll lose and everything will go blurry Then the Dark Passenger will hold me down While this car is driven by his fury My Dark Passenger My Closest Friend My Closest enemy My soul Will it even be out of me?
