I Can't Let ThemA Poem by Ian FarawayAll these friends around me The love and the joy I try to give But none will see the pain in my eyes For I trust no one, not even my friends Of the troubles that disagree With past mistakes that won't forgive Eating at me till I meet my demise When all the grief and sadness ends I want to speak up, I do But the words fail to come out As if I know that it's no use To let someone see the ugly inside It's like no one has a clue I'm filled with emptiness and doubt That leaves a emotional bruise I can't let them see my dark, hurt side See, I've let them in before Showed the scars of my past And let my fragile heart be held Only to have it break like glass in their hand Fell through their fingers and scattered on the floor "Show some love to this broken soul," was all I asked But I let my shattered heart become shelled So no one will see the pain, let alone understand If a woman should ever see the pain Then may God have mercy on her poor soul And myself for allowing myself to trust and love again And if she tries to fix me, then she's just a fool Who will try and surely go insane Trying to fit the pieces and make a perfect whole Make me that which I'm too scared to obtain Happiness that will surely be cruel
