Loyalty

Loyalty

A Poem by Ian Faraway
"

Even when someone leaves us, we will always be loyal to them.

"
I lay wide awake in bed
Drawing circles into the darkness
Trying to distract myself
From all the things you said
Causing me to become anxious
Another painful memory on my bookshelf

I imagine all the fun we had
And a tear comes to my eye
It's hard to think it's all gone
But don't think I'm not glad
I'm just sad it's goodbye
And without you, I move on

I hope that you'll find happiness
Though you look at me with hate
And I'll stand ready if you need me
Ready to show you kindness
It will never be too late
To help you be happy

I may be the one broken
But I'll make sure you're always whole
Regardless of how far you push me away
You will never be forsaken
For you have a piece of my soul
My loyalty to you will always stay

Even as we drift apart
And memory of me sour
I will ask myself why
I hold you so close to my heart
Waiting for you hour after hour
Until my very being starts to die

My loyalties are with you
Whenever you need a gentle spirit
After facing life's rough storm
And you don't know what to do
When your fires are barely lit
I will be ready to keep you warm
