Cycle of My Life

Cycle of My Life

A Poem by Ian Faraway

There are dark clouds at my feet
Laughing at my past defeats
And saying my misery tastes bitter sweet

But I, myself, am a surprise
When I feel something start to arise
In the mist of my desperate cries

My fires rekindle and burn so bright
It will light the darkest of my nights
And deprive a man of his sight

I'm not sure how I found the way
During my most darkest day
But, now, come whatever may

I will fight strong and hard
Until I'm battered and scarred
And my shadows are all charred

Then I will stand tall
On top of my damaged wall
Unknowingly about to fall

This is the cycle in which I live
Unable to let myself forgive
And let myself have what others give

They offer me love
But when they do, I shove
And hide in my darkness above

All because I can't forget
All because of my past regret
All because I lost what I never bet
