Transparent Mask

Transparent Mask

A Poem by Ian Faraway

A mask covers my face
So neutral yet so distinct
In its purpose
It's to hide all the pain
And anger that bursts randomly
To the surface

Are you too blind to see
Through my transparent mask?

It's crystal clear
Not foggy or blurry
The pain can be seen
But in that pain lies anger
I won't say it's there
If you don't ask

Are you trying to avoid
Looking into my transparent mask?

It's like a constant game
Of who caves in first
I'm too proud to ask for help
And you're too ignorant to offer it
I want your help and you want to
We're just clueless of how to approach it

Glued to my face
Is my transparent mask

Sometimes I want to take it off
And hold you tight, crying for help
Other times, I want it to have powers
Able to become blurred or make me invisible
So no one can see me for who I am

It's my savior and curse
It's my transparent mask
