A Story by Tawana Clay
"

One of my favorite poems. It is kind of dark, but funny too. More story than poem, but you will see...

"

I need something to occupy my thoughts with at this time.  I think that will be you.  How brutal should I be?  Should I split your body in two?  Should I remove your innards and set them aside?  Should I replace your innards with something else?  Should I remove your neck or spine and make a broth or stew of some kind?  Should I slowly and methodically remove the bones from your body?  I don’t know what to do with you right now.

I have everything else I need to complete my masterpiece, but with you as the focal point of this masterpiece I cannot complete it.  Let me sit here and think for a moment of what to do.  So many different ideas going through my head.  Hmm, I think I know what I will do now.

I am going to quarter you then rub you down in a nice blend of herbs and spices, then cover you in oil and wine. When the pieces are good and marinated, I will place you in the oven and let you slow bake until your skin is crispy, and your meat is tender. When you are finished cooking, I will place the various pieces in the center of the masterpiece. I will cover you with the sauce that I created from boiling some of your bones in red wine with another blend of herbs and spices.

When all is said and done, dinner will be served and we are having baked chicken with a red wine and tomato reduction, garnished with green onion and fresh ground salt and black pepper. Roasted red skin potatoes with rosemary, basil and thyme, and sautéed green beans with garlic and onions. YUM!
