Ruins and RelicsA Poem by Peter ThomasPoem I created. Sort of symbolic of Pearl Harbor and World War II
There’s nothing really there. Really what we see is just thin air. Decrepit memories of deceitful days. But that’s not all we see Rather what we see is what we want Relics meant to represent that which was but is now long since past. A sinister reminder that all which is eventually must pass. It could be anywhere we go; it could be like a show Whether in the searing heat or the cold as snow air In rarely traveled mountain tops with abundant thin air Or in the scalding deserts swimming with blinding sand as far as the eye can see Yet what we see is what we get and we are all often prone to forget That lying there is all there is Even our lives, destined it is Ruins and Relics to lie after we die.
Eventually we all must see Twined it is with our destiny Forever more we will be seen As just something caught in between A beginning and an end, the endless stream The water trickling through the seem Each particle identical nothing more to seem Individuality will be lost and with it no cost Ever person, everywhere, eventually lost Ill begotten and time forgotten Just Ruins and Relics to lie after we die
Though we can always try It seems easier to live and let die Than to hold onto the thought of life And submit ourselves to endless pain and strife In hopes of achieving that which we need The chance at success of that one deed All semblance of sanity put into one source That which we try so much to hold course Wars and more fought for it Countless lives thrown into the pit But in the end that which we must resort To Ruins and Relics to lie after we die In the pursuit of that thing called EGO © 2010 Peter ThomasAuthor's Note
