No Longer FreeA Poem by Peter ThomasIn a society with so much control and pressure into the status quo.Just how free are we really?A fools errand A devils bargain Wake up and smell Roses straight from hell That sore temptress Ever so close that stench Tis but the smell of freedom A hunger not quite satisfied Like a long lost dream An oasis cast astray A mere whim in the wind Tantalizing like gold Tis but the thought of freedom An ideal so bold No cost too much With the devils touch Men must persevere Or give up their lust For an ideal called freedom Trade offs come and go Join the status quo Merely the idea, now a definition A promise lost No longer worth keeping For the truth behind Glorious lady liberty Realities cost We all must pay No matter what we say To realize freedom no longer frees you © 2012 Peter Thomas |
