WHO, ME?

To be or not to be:”

the quality or state of

having existence,

or not.

“Truely, truly, I say to you,

before Abraham was, I am.”

I AM!

But, what does it mean?

I thought, therefore,

I was?

I will think, therefore,

I will be?

Am I sure?

Will I be modified?

Does the will-be me

remember the I-am me, like I

remember the used-to-be me?

OR…

maybe I just AM!

or not.

About fifty years ago I was introduced to Socrates in a humanities class... I'll never forget that one thing he said, "The unexamined life is not worth living..." I think that class more than any other MADE me.

I've read a lot of philosophy and have come to the conclusion that the difference between philosophers and the rest of us is simply that they write their thoughts down and we don't. Next time you read one of their works just put what they say in your own words and ask if you've thought that before, and if it is something you easily agree with, you already know it...

Dear Vol, you are absolutely right. I also read a lot of philosophy and take a lot of notes as I’m going through the pages. It helps me absorb and better understand. I use pen and paper because somehow it just seems fitting.

There is something more real about the use of good paper, and a pen you love... My father gave me a Waterman fountain pen for just that purpose. I don't write my originals that way, I love trees too much for them to die just so I can just wad them up by the ream, but when I want to give someone a copy...
