TRAVELER

TRAVELER

A Poem by Vol

Traveling along the evergreen trails

something went amiss,

I came upon a long dry spell

it should not be like this.

There I broke my brittle feet

and stood right where I fell.

Where was the water, clear and sweet?

I had to dig a well.

I sang as I worked in the awful heat

I was a cracked and broken bell.

One day my fingers left my hand,

and my eyes were about to burst,

I knew I had to take a stand

everything I loved was cursed.

Cool water, boomed a voice!

I heard the words I needed to know

though my eyes were about to burst

I'll cool my lips in its cleansing flow!

Cool water!” to quell your thirst

So I drank my fill,

but thirsted still,

knowing it was all a dream

till the clock cried shrill

that nothing is as it seems.

Hello Vol. I got quite a surprise reading you. Wasn’t expecting to read rhyme and so lyrical too. I’ve only ever read free verse from your pen. Beautiful flow. Reads well out loud and much enjoyed. Hope all is good in your world.

What Chris said! 😃
But why the he'll did I hear it in an Irish accent? Must be all that pale ale you drink! 😃
I'm the same with rhyme and can barely write a piece without intentionally messing the rhyme and rhythm of it.
I've always had a problem with rhyme because if people hear you write poetry and then read some, they usually look confused and say "but it doesn't rhyme" and then I sigh and explain again that rhyme is only one of over 300 forms of poetry (and I get away with it, like I've sat down and counted them all) and I try not to get annoyed or point out they sound as thick and pointless as a ball made of cement, but I make a point of saying that if it's my little sis saying it because she is thick and pointless and thinks everyone thinks she's amazing when in fact they are terrified of the crazy b***h!
Now, where was I? Oh yes, pale ale! 😃
I had a Caffereys the other night, which is the bestliest pale ale around and you used to get it in every supermarket, but can only get it in cash n curry's now and is the best thing to come out of Ireland since, well Guinness I suppose. But I do prefer caffereys with its crisp paleness over Guinness' tracle/licorice look any day!
So there you have it, a concise and to the point of a review once again from yours truly. My work is now done!

Checking you out one last time before bed. Did I want to log in and review? You betcha!

Vol! This is magnificent! When I pictured your brittle feet breaking, I see you emerging...this awesome poet unexpected but wonderful! Of course I love all your writings, your shop talk, your past adventures...

This new "twist" tonight is a bouquet of wonderful and beautiful and sweet smelling exotic flower no one has ever seen before!

You are like a constant flow of crystal droplets, each sweeter than before. What a beautiful breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing.

I have never heard that word, abashed. You keep me on my undeserving toes, Vol. smooches ;-)
Now there’s something not often done, but all things are revealed under the Sun. You do it quite well as well.
