DO WHAT?

DO WHAT?

A Poem by Vol

I remember physics 101

for dummies. The professor said

At two million miles per hour,

it would take two thousand years

to get from earth to Proxima Centauri,

our closest stellar neighbor.”

I have no means to comprehend

the distance composed of four light years.

The human mind is not made to know

much beyond our physical experience.

The Milky Way is one hundred thousand

light years from end to end, so at

one hundred eighty-six thousand miles per

second, The light of Sol getting there today

is older than the human race.

HA! and you think that’s impressive,

Andromeda is two and a half million years

from here. And that’s just the beginning.

Begs the question, doesn’t it?

What are we doing here?

We march around with

our science, our religion,

to find the answer.

AS THOUGH.

We think we know, are finding out,

the universe is too fine tuned to be random,

an accident of space-time, so there must be

a Maker.

Imagine.

That’s all we can do,

we cannot KNOW! My tiny brainbox

wants to say, “that makes sense.”

In my arrogance,

my stupid hubris,

I want to think the Universe

is conscious, the universe is God.

But, God does not exist if existence requires

atoms and muons and koans or any other

trick of Schrodinger. How do you measure

Spirit? We can’t even measure who we are.

God exists in my thoughts, in my soul,

in my mind and is more real

than I will ever be.

I like to remember what the Bible says about "faith". Everything is possible with God.
Vol, I like to imagine God showing us the seven universes and beyond during Eternity.
That is forever, ya know. The Bible does say, "World without end."
We will be spirit. Like God!
I can't wait!
I was sad when my mom was dying, she said, "Don't be sad! It's just a step away!"

Hi Vol - Great poem. I like writing that makes me think and contemplate stuff I’ll never understand. I was always terrible at science. Too technical. Faith is much easier for me to comprehend. Happy Holidays!

I don't believe anymore in organized religion but have always believed in a Supreme being keeping the universe organized in some order that allows so many different things to exist together and exist with its own perfection...Only wish people would exist together now.
I really like this poem, Vol.

Right there with you Jacob... the church has gotten the Gospel wrong from day one.
Well Vol, have you forgotten that the definitive answer is and always will be forty-two?
As Marvin said, what is the point of anything?
Perhaps he meant that even with a brain the size of his, it was futile to even think we could ever understand the workings and meaning of life and everything else and say thanks for all the fish and hope for the best! 😃
The closer you look at it, the more incomprehensible it becomes, especially with that alien Musk thinking Mars is the solution, which is a bit like saying "okay, we've messed up one planet so why don't we move to a nearby planet to solve our problems... for a price of course!"
Hasn't he read the John Carter of Mars books?
Now, what was I saying? Oh yes, I think beyond a certain point, our heads just turn all these light years into bigly big distances, a bit like when we are reading a book when a character has a very unpronoucable name and our head just starts calling them Mr unpronounceable, as you realise you're forgetting the story for the length of time it's taking you to try to pronounce their name.
So if you understand anything at all, just remember light years become bigly big, hard to say names become Mr unpronounceable and whatever you do, remember your towel always! 😃
