CYCLONE

CYCLONE

A Poem by Vol

There is a carnival in the sky

flashing light and making noise,

threatening buckets and rivers

of rain to come with lights aspin

and thunder, too. It is a frolic for

hail as big as baseballs in a game

no one wants to play.

But here we are, driving in the city

with no escape but up, if she hits

with a full-on haymaker, things break

because she can’t stand it when they

remain the same. So she comes with

arms full of blue doom to remind us the

value of religious rites since we’ll

soon be burying our dead because

that’s all they are good for in a field

of debris.

Ah, you've met my ex too, have you? Shh, but I just call her psycho for short and try my bestliest to just agree with everything she howls, I mean says and to be honest with you, I do try to look for things that take me out of her path, just so I can relax and sigh without having to explain why I'm sighing so loudly.
I mean, I know it is not the most woke thing to say, especially in these days of cancel culture, but that b***h do be crazy!
I only hope and pray her destruction finds itself on the path of whatever pharmaceutical company makes chill pills! Maybe that way she might just calm herself down to a slight panic, just long enough to hog tie her and throw her in a room with that nice bouncy wallpaper! 😃

I can only imagine how terrifying these hurricanes can be. I live in a part of the world that doesn’t have this type of weather. Your short poem is full of vivid description, movement and threats. The aftermath devastating. Good to read you Vol. All good wishes.

the title caught me off guard. i thought you call them hurricanes?
either way, it is a sharp lament on natural disasters, which we see so many of in recent years. this very poignant line: 'arms full of blue doom to remind us the / value of religious rites since we’ll / soon be burying our dead' struck a chord with me. i lost a distant relative in the 2011 tsunami. the destructive force of nature, it's terrifying, almost glorious power was captured in this piece as was the devestation it wreaks on us powerless humans. strong writing throughout, made me feel a lot.

"Arms full of blue doom." Very apt choice of words to describer a killer storm. I live near the coast, so I am quite wary of weather conditions at certain times of the year.

I hate seeing people and animals die in such a way. Nature has no mercy when it comes to tornadoes hurricanes, or any other weather catastrophe. If you're in the way, there's nothing that can save you.
