THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES

THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES

A Poem by Vol

The problem is, some sort of

feline encephalitis.

when they get it, they die.

It comes from little nasties

that used to feed on bobcats,

but since we’ve overbuilt,

they have to settle for domesticated

food and that makes my lover

unhappy.

As for me,

I have the same opinion about

cats as they have of us…

We occupy adjacent space and

stay out of each other’s way.

I spent almost a year of spare time

building a screened porch

out back so they could

get some outdoor air,

not stink things up so bad,

and to save the corners of

every piece of furniture in the house.

Gandy and Piesie died anyway,

so only Mudlucious is left,

and a new one she calls Roxie.

I won’t tell you how that

makes me feel.

The back porch,

like all my best laid plans

has become, not a total waste,

but little more than a place for

all the stuff I don’t feel like

putting away anytime soon.

Seems purring isn't top of your day-to-day emotions these days, Vol? Has that caused a division of duties under your roof or have you and Lisa created a duty roster? Know you were being honest but I grinned at the near cat-animosity. Hope things finish happily and your porch returns to its original glory! Sharing fun and words makes for a good day.

The best laid plans of mice and men, eh? Entropy does catch up with us in the end.

Skinless,
It does, indeed, every time!
