TAKE A BREATHA Poem by VolWe went into the woods, and camped a couple of days, wasn’t much to do, not much to see. The trees were big, and the creek was cool, She said, “I’ve learned something about you out here I never noticed before.” I raised my eyebrows? “It’s hard for you to relax, you can’t just sit and do nothing.”
My intention was to think about that, decide if it rang true, but it was hot, maybe a hundred, with heavy humidity so all I could do was let the sweat roll off my brow and into my eyes, or down my back to soak my clothes.
I rode home alone, she followed in the car. Halfway there, a fawn ran from all the way across the highway, so I had to jam the brakes and swerve my bike to miss him by just a few inches. In the mirror, I saw him jump about five feet straight up, figured that was the venison version of “Holy s**t!” My heart pounded hammers and I laughed out loud for miles. And she wants me to relax. © 2024 VolFeatured Review
