ODE

ODE

A Poem by Vol

Weep for the dreams,

the sweet dreams of youth

when we sang in the sunshine

and we laughed every day.

Weep for your life

that gets in the way

of sunshine and laughter

that faded and gone

and sing to the blue skies

gone grey every day.

Sing to the lake, clear and clean

and meet in the meadow

like a yesterday green.

Wander the fields and

wade in the stream

where we sang in the sunshine

and we laughed every day.

Weep for the dreams,

the sweet dreams of youth

when we sang in the sunshine

till you went on your way.

Author's Note

Vol
Written for the funeral of my first wife and mother of my sons. We fell in love when we were way too young. We had no jobs, no car, no bills, no idea of life. We were free to wander the two-lane countryside of rural Wisconsin with a portable radio that played the song I used here. The days were warm, the nights cool and everything was clean.

an appropriate "ode". the best times of my life were when i had and knew little. the baggage of life can be heavy and gets in the way. you had the courage to follow your hearts and that says a lot as do these words ... :)
