TIME IS DEAD

Sometimes I think

there is no past

or future,

just this point we call

“Now.”

But if that is so,

where did all these

memories come from?

I want to believe they

really happened...

Over my shoulder,

I can see that kid

with the muscles

and long hair, in love

with every woman he met;

going on adventures

with a surfboard at the beach,

or making out in the back seat

of dad’s Oldsmobile

after the dance.

Your poem got me thinking and that is almost always a good thing. I think we are our time. It can't die until we do. And whether it objectively dies or not eventually is probably causally unrelated anyway.

Memories are not real. They are based on true events though. The past cannot be changed and the future cannot be known, so Now truly is the only thing that is objectively ours.

It's always good to read something that makes you think about topics you enjoy thinking about. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

I get it... time is one freaky thing. There are quantum physicists who believe the past is as indeterminant as the future... and who's to argue? Trying to step out of our own time is as nebulous a concept as the existence of God... hell as the existence of self! It is probably a more fruitful exercise to enjoy the smell of a rose, or the cow pie you just stepped in. Hard to deny THOSE realities.

I'm glad there's no past and future. All that whirring back and forward is enough to make the horizon sway!
I much prefer to think that we can time travel, but only when we dream. That's why we keep on being able to answer the most random of questions on a TV show, without having a clue how we know it.
Now I'm wondering how many dream miles I've got and can you use them like air miles😊
That old time music station is pretty good vol. Right on cue they segued in to 🎶 "All I gotta do, is drea-ee-eam 🎶 😊

Speaking of... There are times when things are too close, and so big, there is no true and appropriate response to cover its entirety. I got word yesterday, that my 95-year-old mom is leaving rather soon... a week to maybe a month...

As I understand it, the Buddhists say the only time is now. The Hindus say the only reality is Brahman and the past never happened. And yet, I still have a scar from an accident that occurred in 1958. I think the truth is something that encompasses all of these.

We perceive time as linear, and arrow moving from past t future, and that is all we need to function in our re4ality. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that we are not mistaken, and all of time exists concurrently as an infinitley small dot.
