Why?

Why?

A Story by Vol

I asked why the first word of every line is capitalized in poetry? These are the answers:
I find the opposite to be true. The first word of a line is only sometimes the beginning of a new sentence, and the capital letter is a grammatical convention that DISTRACTS from the flow.

"Capitalizing the first word of every line in a poem is a traditional practice in poetry, dating back to classical poetry
2
.
This convention is not always followed in modern poetry, as poets may choose to bend or break the rules to suit their individual writing styles
2
.
The reasons for capitalizing the first word of each line include:
  1. Tradition: Historically, this has been the norm in poetry, and it is still followed in many classical and traditional poems
    1
    .
  2. Grammatical Structure: In prose, the first word of every sentence is capitalized, and the same rule applies to poetry
    2
    .
This helps to create a sense of structure and organization in the poem.
  3. Attention and Importance: Capitalization can draw the reader's attention to the beginning of a new line or idea, making it easier to follow the poem's structure and flow.
I find the opposite to be true. The first word of a line is only sometimes the beginning of a new sentence, and so, the capital letter is a grammatical convention that DISTRACTS from the flow. But I am a child of the sixties, and rarely follow stupid rules...

I feel capitalising each line makes a poem look poetic.
