MOVE ALONG, PLEASE

MOVE ALONG, PLEASE

A Poem by Vol

The dawn was muted

by heavy clouds, so it

took about three hours

to crawl over the ridge,

a slow morning for sure.

I’ve smoked five cigarettes

already, and am halfway

through a pot of coffee,

waiting for nothing

in particular.

Some nice blues on the radio

give me an excuse to dance

alone in the den, Fresh Cream,

Stevie Ray, and some tracks

of Asleep at the Wheel.

Outside the window,

there is an early bird

robin who seems to have

adopted the bare branches

of that persimmon for the

last week or so instead of

wandering the yard for worms.

I know how he feels.

I’ve got things to do too,

but they’ll wait.
