LIGHTS OUT

LIGHTS OUT

A Poem by Vol

It’s ok to turn the light on
I just turned this one out.”
So I did and crawled in
next to you, your knees
pressed into my leg; I
reached for the switch, and
that is how we slept.
At two o'clock, you coughed
so hard I sat up,
but you waved me off.
In the morning
when I woke you,
your eyes were wild
and you could not speak.
It was on the 9th of September

the blood clot bullet to the head
took you out, all our baggage
open and spread
tatterdemalion at my feet
so now I trip and fall headlong
into your missing smile or scowl,
lost in the dark, your brilliance.
left behind.

Isn't it a pity that when death calls us, that only the few loved ones remember us, at least until there time comes, when so much will be forgotten as the species advances and declines simultaneously!

Perhaps we just became too big a tribe to remember what is important to us. Individuals who touch our lives so much that they become a part of it and then we are left with only memories of how much they meant, like a bad dream afterthought.
I definitely think we have forgotten what is truly important in life by being distracted with all the latest must haves, that become instantly obsolete when the next new shiny shiny takes its place.
I really do wish I could remember what it was we had before, but forgot about.

Incredible and forthright. Sorrow to the nth level of description. I weep for this piece of unbridled beauty.
