HERE WE GO AGAIN

HERE WE GO AGAIN

A Poem by Vol

Because we have no idea

when it ends; we fly merrily

from Birch to Oak to

Persimmon...

Because we have no idea

of the fly perched on the rim of the

porcelain cup just at the place we will

soon kiss and slurp its footprints.

But that’s us, with our lips curled;

our innocent sneer and empty eyes

a dead give-away to the knowledge that

we have no idea what we have

done.

Because we have no idea

who we are, we smile with the

understanding that even as we slide

a stainless dagger between the ribs of

Diana, Mona, Victorine, and every

woman Georgia O’Keefe ever painted,

we know the math, we understand the

science and have the technology to heal

what we have so delicately sliced

to pieces and maintain its monetary

value.

to a cherry in bloom, to the distorted

limbs of a wild Olive, always with a secret

desire to nest one last time in the dark

twists of some isolated and tortured

Hemlock.

Know thyself is very important so we don't go to these dark corners and make mistakes. Especially the ones that end someone's life.. I've made many mistakes but if we can be as honest as this poem then we can better know ourselves and then choose to be better.

Wouldn't it be a kick, that when we are finally swatted off this mortal coil, the last thought we will have as we run the express chute to hell, would be to find that there is indeed a heaven, but it's only for flies we swat and animals we have massacred, unthinkingly "thinking" that because we dragged our sorry asses out of the food chain, it gave us some kind of divine right to think that we were somehow superior to other creatures, when in fact it is those buzzy little irritants that are the Lords and we are way beneath the flies?
Could we really blame them? But please tell me we are above the dung beetle, please?! 😊

Ordinarily, I don't pay attention to my coffee cup as I read the morning news. Now, however, I will be eying it every ten seconds. If I hear buzzing, I'll start flailing in every direction with my trusty flyswatter. Will probably end up smashing the cup and sending hot coffee all over the cat sleeping on the floor. Thanks.

Seems to me there is more to this poem as it branches out across different territories. What is common is often uncommon to those who read things into something that is not there but to those who see, much is found in the waiting.

I love the imagery of the trees here. The undertone of darkness woven into the beautiful, serene imagery almost in a Baudelaire way but more gentle and feminine.
