The Groove

The Groove

A Poem by Vol

Blues is rock-n-roll

smoothed out, slowed down,

so you have time to think.

It is anything but sad,

more like traveling

with the sound of a muted

coronet laying sweet syrup

on that dance you do when

the air is soft and she knows

exactly how to move.

Yup, I concur my good fellow!... Which is the first time that's ever been said about the blues. 😊
I still remember the first time I heard of Koko Taylor, known as the Queen of Chicago blues.
It was, how the young uns say, a WTF moment, where I stopped whatever it was I was doing and once I got my senses back, trolled through second hand vinyl stores to find more.
I was in luck, in those pre Internet days, where even dial up online was but a thought and we had to do it the hard way. I found two albums and just about played them to death, but then along came the Internet and things were made easier.
I even got to meet the lady at the Chicago blues festival. She was busy working her way through a shift at her own place, Koko's bar and grill and introduced herself to me, after my ex fiance told her that we came just to see her, or rather hear her sing.
She waitresses out drinks too and said to hang around as she had a surprise.
Next thing, she introduced me to this fella you might have heard of, a Mr B. B. King! I thought I'd died from a stroke or something and just played along with whatever afterlife thing this was, but both were the nicest people I've ever met and although both no longer with us, will never leave me with their kindness.
Blues is just a handy word to describe what they lived, and you so expertly wrote so well.

The Blues nothing like it. Some music I have to be in the mood for. But the Blues just seems to wake the soul.

Liked the last six lines especially. Modern rock owes a lot to the blues.

A well written small poem

You have time to think, maybe too much time...
my friend plays clarinet...bluesy, beautiful, forlorn...
and Yes she knows...she doesn't need a set of instructions, she just moves from inside herself.

She IS a poem, then... of the most powerful kind. Erato with a licorice stick.
Wow, the flow and brevity are just right. I'd even like to see this treatment for other genres of music if it interests you.

love blues music, i was lucky enough to see Ray Charles and his band many years ago ... wow what an evening that was.
At about the same time or maybe a bit earlier i had a craze about Muddy Waters ....
that takes me back a very long time ♫
