HARD TIMES

HARD TIMES

A Poem by Vol
"

true sstory

"

 Despite the scarecrow hair, artist’s

palette of makeup, and mini skirt,

it was the jacket that caught my eye…

some kind of mystery cloth, black with

iridescent blotches of gold and blue or

red that came and went as she turned in

the light. I watched her talk to Pat, hand

him the money for the beer she sipped.

When she came my way, I took her arm,

“What is this cool material?”

“Oh, I needed a little color in my life

because, right now, I’m going through

an angry hell.”

Her voice let me know she needed an ear,

and I almost fell into those pretty green eyes,

said, “I’m so sorry…”

dropped her elbow,

turned, and walked alone

back to my table.

Yeah Vol, sometimes it's more than just a feeling, when you see that the answer would be more a nigh shift that would run into some fair overtime, than a brief smile with sparkling eyes that you hoped would lead to a brief, fumbling grope of that material that caught your eye, before realisation dawned on you that that answer wouldn't have had the happiest of endings you had intended....
Or am I just projecting my own scenario onto yours, where regret is often followed by wishing you hadn't spoke to the ones you did, and wishing you had spoken to the ones you didn't?
My those "ones you didn't just keep lingering in your mind, even more so than a fart in a spacesuit! 😊

Appreciate the flow and honesty of the scene. Imbibes modern Dickens in poetic form.
