I brought Lisa home from the hospital where she had back surgery, and in the mail was a notice that I was being called for Jury duty, I have not seen the letter or even thought about it since until about an hour ago... Oh no! Where? When? Searched everywhere just knowing it had been tossed AHHA! Found it... I was to report for duty YESTERDAY!!! OH NO!!! Prison time for me! So I called to turn myself in, and got a recording that anyone with a notice for August 28 was DISMISSED! Dang it! I was really looking forward to this little interlude... a chance to meet people, get out of the house, the distraction from my otherwise mundane life, see justice done... BUT NO! "Never mind... sorry for the confusion!" Last time I was on jury duty was about thirty years ago in Titusville, Brevard County Florida. You know, the county with Cape Canaveral in it. It was weird, I was the only juror who did not work for NASA, or McDonald Douglas, or Grumman, or some other space contractor. Let me you what I learned from that experience. You know the saying, "Well, it ain't rocket science!" Ha! it's a good thing, because those people couldn't figure how to fold a map! One talked about the case outside the courtroom, one told me he knew the guy had been to court before and was probably guilty, and one of them threw up her hands halfway through deliberations and cried out," Make it stop! I can't take any more of this!" No wonder we haven't been back to the moon. SHEEESH!
Every time I've been called for jury duty, the recording tells me to call back in on such-and-such a date, and then ... rinse & repeat! I've never yet had to report. But I live in Illinois.
Used to live in Florida, and am familiar with Cape Canaveral.
I enjoyed this!
We all need a little humor once in a while, and life can often provide it, if we're willing to see the humor in even the potentially aggravating situations!

I really do miss Florida. Nice to meet another once Floridian... (I was born in Jacksonville)

Me too! Jacksonville is five hundred miles east of Pensacola! Folks do not realize Florida is as wide as it is long. Playa Linda is in Brevard County, a thiryt-five-mile-long stretch of absolutly pristine beach. Nothing commercial there at all. Before they moved the bridge, we'd drive withing a quarter of a mile of Launch Pad B, and they would close access when there was a Shuttle on the pad. If I could afford to move back it would be to Titusville.

Curiously, when one is stopped or pulled over by law enforcement, one of the initial tests of one's sobriety is to assess one's ability to follow and obey instructions, and discern one's situational surroundings. So, if this cute little tale's telling is not fictional, but an episode out of you life many years ago, then, it sounds like these folks were not in full possession of sober sobriety's faculties, though I am certain none were drinking or drugging, but they most certainly were not thinking responsibly ...
As for such scatterbrained folks serving as a solution's logical reason as to why we have never been back to the moon? We all possess our theories and thoughts set upon that once exciting & enthralling topic. Why so? I was an avid Space Flight enthusiast as a teenager and kept a scrapbook with cutouts of every article or shred of info i could find on each and every spaceflight right up 1969's Apollo Eleven 11. Today, people tend to forget that back during that period of world history, we were taught in school how to survive a nuclear attack (always from the USSR) by doing certain things such as finding drinking water in the flush tanks of toilets and such as that. And, we were told that the reason that the Space Race was so very important was that whoever controlled the moon could and would easily control and dominate the Earth, and we could not allow the USSR to become that controlling entity's nation that would be sure and certain (view Communism) to enslave the world, and possibly incinerate and annihilate the United States of America should the U.S. failed to kowtow to the demands of a Moscow's authority as a nuclear armed base upon the moon. Realistically, it was never supposed to be about who got there first, but about who established a Moon-base that could be built and structured to serve as such a threat to all the nations and peoples of Earth, including, or course, America. Thus, coming in at second place would not (never) have ruled out the possibility of the USSR establishing a base on the Moon at some point in the future follow Apollo 11 and the complexion of all Apollo missions. Yet, the U.S. never sought to construct a base upon the Moon as per all the propaganda we were mesmerized and terrorized by back in school during those exciting, but trying, Cold War times, a very confusing & mysterious lack of outcome to match all which we had been told and assured of. The same confusion & sheer mystery holds out for the USSR which, if all we were told were true, could have easily achieved a second place Moon landing of Soviets upon the Moon, and could have easily established a base as that ominous threat we were all told and convinced of that Communism and the USSR represented to the Freedom of the World, possibly the future existence of all Mankind. Yet, not only did the USSR not put Soviets on the Moon, they also did not establish that threat to planet Earth Moon Base that could have (so we were told) enslaved all Humanity in the name of Communism's the USSR via the threat of a nuclear attack upon uncooperative nations, with missiles launched from facilities established upon the Moon's surface. Someone lied to us all, each and every one. There is information missing/and/or obfuscated, deleted, or plain our falsified, and that to the entire world, including Americans, for, to date, not even the Chinese have attempted such a feat as that which we Americans were convinced of in those days that had to be done to secure and protect our nation and the world. I had an uncle who worked for North American Rockwell. He helped designe the Lunar Landing Module. He also went to the USSR and work with the Soviets on the joint spaceflight between America & the USSR. He expressed serious concerns about these very items of interest which remain a mystery in explaining away as unnecessary questions. I won't get into conspiracy theory ideas or anything else, but the fact that we never went back (if we went manned at all) is a mystery that does deserve solving's answers. For Trump invited Russia and Putin to take part in a joint venture to put a man on Mars, and Putin politely declined ... Hmmmm
