Drive three hours

to someplace downtown,

drink a few beers, play garish

arcade noise makers then

flop around a smokey floor

in time to bad music

and make themselves

laugh.

DagnabbitVol. They told me they had erased the tapes once I had paid the ransom, to stop people seeing me dance like an eejit, with that lady I thought was so into me, but was really just a female cop trying to put the cuffs on me.
I swear I could see a twinkle in her eye at my court case... But it turned out she was just smirking in the knowledge I was heading to the room with bouncy wallpaper... Again! 😊

I love the sound of this and I'm going to take your advice pretty seriously on my upcoming vacation. This poem was fun to read and has such wisdom at its core. One must let go, forget about oneself to really have fun. Taking oneself seriously and having fun don't go together. So, find the grimiest floor, noisiest arcade or whatever floats one's boat. Be a happy clown. I loved it Vol!

This poem is another inspired by the carnival midway that is second Avenue and Broadway in downtown Nashville. Southern honkey-tonks are not like pubs and bars up north. In the south people tend to buy the amount of alcohol they intend to drink that night, determined by just how drunk they plan to get. They do not know you can put the cap back on a Fifth, much less a 1.75, And when they get drunk, they want to either cause a fight, dance badly, puke, or go to sleep. And there are never any leftovers. Yankees come to Spring Break down south so they can act that way and not get caught...
What's even worse, here I am in Texas, "Man's" country, where it is not unusual to see a family of five at a restaurant in boots, spurs, hats and buckles, and daddy orders Coors light because he ain't gay, drinkin' that Bud light he always liked so much...
