COTTAGES

COTTAGES

A Poem by Vol

On the television is a scene

with a bridge that sweeps in

a pleasing curve over a blue river,

and I want to build a cottage there.

I can see us barefoot in the grass

along the bank, admiring the purple

splash of flowers.

But there is a desert I crossed once.

Up the mountain on the other side,

I pulled over and looked

back at the white-hot expanse.

I want to build a cottage there on

the edge;in the window of our

overlook we could drink cold water

and watch the world shimmer.

Then I remember the north end

of the rift where I had a farm and

learned something of beauty. I want to

move back there and build a cottage,

raise a garden again in that bee loud glade.

If I did, would you come along? So quiet.

My bed is soft and warm, everything else

left over the creek and behind the mountain.

Each place is special in its own way but not sufficiently so to stay settled. We are constantly on the move, seeking something else. Contentment lies inside ourselves, not with places or anything else. We can seek the whole world over for our paradise and never find it. My Grandad found his paradise in a humble abode in a city. He had little money but he was the most contented man I ever knew. He introduced me to poetry. Love this poem Vol for where I drifted.

:) ……………..
They say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, or the garden grows better in a different yard. But sometimes we can't be happy no matter where we are...because the spirit and need to keep moving to an new environment comes from within...the restlessness, the inability to find contentment.
Not the surroundings because they are all enticing in their own ways...but inside.
This is my favorite I have read from you so far, Vol.
