A DREAM

A DREAM

A Poem by Vol

The darkened sun floats

above ominous clouds,

so my morning coffee

has a harder job in the den

where the lights are off.

She sleeps late behind the door

working away at her painful

nerves from yesterday’s

slings and arrows.

So, I’m thinking…

there is a lot of land out there

where all I want is a small

cottage. Would it be a crime

to homestead a little piece

no one uses, like the Unibomber?

Take our books, our music, our

roots,and plant them there?

Live like Tolkien’s Tom,

and Goldberry?

I’m too old to start

that kind of business:

haven’t much of a clue

about building with logs,

living without access

to stores.

And what about

my friends the poets?

I’d need someone to talk to

because I’m crazy and nature

isn’t enoughto soothe the things

I suffer from.

I’ll just sit here, roll another cigarette,

pour myself another cup of coffee,

and dream about a slightly better

universe I know is just over there

the other side of this one, where

things make more sense and

not everything went wrong.

Sounds good to me. I'd quite like that too, but of course it would be called something like sphlintlokka, which is made up Swedish for homestead er flat pack and would be delivered and built in three hours by two vikings you would need to lock up any daughters, grandkids or gullible animals from.
And you know if they were a success, version 2.0 would come with 5G Internet access and one of those fridges that when you were down to your last four beers, would deliver another case without you having to lay a finger.
By version 5.0 they would come with handy bots, to clean and tend the garden for you and of course a turn down service... Just pray you're not in the bed when they decide to rebel though or you'll end up going through the wall and resembling freshly poured waffle mix. 😊
