BUCKLE UP

BUCKLE UP

A Poem by Vol

The Earth travels around

the sun at sixty thousand

mph; Sol around the

Milky Way at, wow!

Four hundred sixty k

every hour, but that’s nothing!

Our little galaxy flings us about

at over six hundred thirty

miles per second, so...

HANG ON!

Space, time, and gravity

are chained at the neck,

and we are hitched to

their bumper, whipsawed

by each passing lover

who spins too close,

makes us wobble,

tickles our fancy,

or stabs us in the neck.

Their touch is frozen in

the empty spaces of memory,

slowed only by a random

damming in the stream of

our consciousness.

We’re mere pawns in the path

of those darlings with flowers

or long curved fangs, the basic

building blocks we’re made of,

strewn along the unabridged miles,

way, way back there, marked by

bloody feet on an impossible path

we did not know we chose until

it was too late.

And you know, no matter how queasy that thought makes you, screaming for it to Stop has never, nor will ever work!
It's just typical as far as I'm concerned, in such a rush to get nowhere in particular, that the only surprise to me is it is all done so quietly and efficiently. By human standards, you'd at least expect flashing light, klaxons and other nerve jangling noises screaming in the thousands of decibels to show any other life forms in this eerily scarily inhabited universe how clever we think we are. With the cleverest of all thinking that if they run fast while we're doing it, it means they're the fastestestest ever!!!
And we both know there are people cranking up their treadmills right now to prove it! 😊
Its enough to make you hope someone slams on the brakes just once and all over the universe, piles of jam appear to take over 😊
I would join in, but I'd only run in the opposite direction and end up slamming into myself.
And that boys n girls, is end of science 101...Remember your homework for next time! 😊

I like how you expressed this...I have had many fender benders with love...it travels too fast and I always end up looking in my rearview mirror when it is too late. Great metaphor here, Vol.
