ποιέω

ποιέω

A Poem by JT Godin
"

There is so much making and no poetry.

"
There has never been more ποιέω, and more reason for poetry, and more [found] poetry, than in this time of technological marvel.
And there has never been more contempt for poetry.
And there has never been more bad poetry.
And there has never been before now, poetry consumed for the masses in get well soons, IG feeds, tiring pop songs, and even religious offerings.
There has never been a time before now where teenage angst produced more interesting lyric than the confused adult.

But here we are.

Here we are with never more opportunity to Pound "something new"
Here we are with never more opportunity to say all that we need to say in one breath -- like Howls on Leaves of Grass
Here we are when there has never been a time when there has never been a time when there has never been a time
Here we are right now with the means and access for the first time to connect all our thoughts to our prosthetic memories, and yet nothing interesting can he said

Plato feared the apathy that the written word would inspire
And while I dare dream of all the scientific wonders we have unlocked and thrust into the palm of every middle classed (and occasionally impoverished) person
I cannot conspire a thought of revelation in our modern day classical arts
Arts of today inspire a departure from the world's greatness; and the greatness of people; and the greatness of all that we have accomplished -- three greatnesses riddled with horror, all the more reason for ποιέω

and ποιέω we get.

Those familiar names feared of a future without poetry,
And those familiar names feared right for what it's worth,
But those familiar names, cynics and pessimists were wrong to fear a world without poetry -- however a world without poetry is increasingly less human.

' Here we are right now with the means and access for the first time to connect all our thoughts to our prosthetic memories, and yet nothing interesting can he said.. '

Finely written and academic. But, although there are ladles full of pronouncement - where is the More? That small hint to light a few words of hear.felt poetry. Poetry might come uninvited but it's generally triggered, nudged, prompted by a speck of something. We have poetry and art and theatre and the open world in which to walk. If we're unaware then perhaps less emphasis on commerce and power and money might be to blame. Perhaps ?

I really love how you put everything together. Especially in the beginning when you wrote, "-in this time of technological marvel."
