The Place I Once Belonged

The Place I Once Belonged

A Poem by ac4st3r

That miscoloured place

Was just there for me

It was so lonely

Now it always will be

One day I'll return home

To the place I once belonged

But it'll no longer be mine

Because of their wars

There's been so much destruction

Places died with the past

I noticed their suffering

And they ignored mine

Although they did not go anywhere

I lost them both and more

One of them deserted me

The other stands incomplete

And so many different things

And plans we never shared

Their paths crossed mightily

But they're living different plans

And so am I but I still see

When one goes to hell and

The other's head is high

That is by far no better than before

And it's etched into the starry night

And every line that I write

They were fools to take one block

From the place I once belonged

This poem is sad, yes, but also has a bit of anger and resentment in it. It' a sad poem with teeth! I like this, I really and truly do. This poem really resonates with me. I am anti-war and anti-violence as a means of solving things. This poem made me pause to think, "what is left when it's all over?" Thia isn't the standard poem about sad and bitter loss. Your word choice and tone give this poem a voice and a life all its own. Thanks for sharing.
