Memories of the RainA Poem by Japanese Cherry
Late at night I wake to the sound of thunder
As I look out the window, I feel as if I could see us Sitting in our old rooms together I was so afraid back then But sitting next to you... Changed it all I remember cuddling next to you on the bed Lights out and the curtains spread apart We would watch the rain crash down against the window You would hold me close every time the lightning flashed I would hug you back every time the thunder boomed These thunderstorms brought us so close together Now I sit down alone on my bed Watching the lightning flash and the thunder boom Its just like the old times... but something changed it all I can no longer feel your warmth beside me I no longer feel your arms around me as the lightning flashes I can not hug you anymore when the thunder booms I feel your emptiness engulfing me It kills me to know that I will no longer hear your comforting voice Or feel your warmth engulf me Instead, I only feel loneliness... Then I remember what you always told me "I will always be with you" You would say Now I feel the tears brimming in my eyes As the first falls, I feel your sudden touch I look to see no one beside me I was still alone... but something changed I no longer felt lonely or empty Instead, I feel better I laugh as I wipe away my tears "You will always be with me... But... It takes a thunderstorm to relieve me of my emptiness"
