Seasons
Life is a journey, and this is an undeniable truth
On this journey, we meet fellow wayfarers
Some meant to be acquaintances
While others, mere passing clouds
What we do not see instead is how
These people are like the seasons that come and go
When you have nobody, and when things get lonely
Just like a forsaken path on the road of your journey
You see nothing, just a barren expanse going on and on
Roasted by the sun, without mercy for your delicate thoughts
As you thirst for company, but there’s none to be seen
Just one person you wish to see, like a drop in a canteen
You trod along, holding your own against the cruel world
But you don’t realize you have to be burnt to shine like gold
Once you are glittering, for all to see
That’s when you know you’ve made it far
You see people clamoring to get your attention
As they strive to be a part of your journey and ascension
And so, you agree and you march along
With your motley crew, you think you are very strong
You only see the peak that is ahead
But not the peril that lies on the path
Like a leaf that falls from a strong tree during the autumn
You fall as your very aides push you to the bottom
Beware O child, for life is not all that bright
For every day is followed by night
What you need to worry about, however, is not the pitch black
But the twilight and the dusk that set in before
As a prologue to the dark that is yet to come
The winds change, and the shadows wait for you to succumb
The air gets chilly, and your path too bleak
Leaving you to fend for yourself, tired and weak
You have nothing to be worried about, you tell yourself
Little do you know the nature of man, or you’d be safe
You were too naïve, too trusting of the ones by your side
You never realized, they were plotting all the while
For that is the way humans are, calculating and cruel
When you are shining like the sun, you trust them like a fool
The ones you knew were all but riding your coattails
As a means to go ahead while you bit the dust
You connected with everyone when you shone like gold
Now you realize, not only the air but also your heart is cold
You tell yourself, this cold night too will pass
When you lie in the coffin, made of ice instead of glass
You fail to realize that you have not seen everything
Your life will not be cut so short because of setbacks
Just like life always springs after the cold is gone
You will look up at the sky, and see hints of dawn
As you trod your path, with your lessons learned
You will not trust others easily after being beaten to the ground
But as you keep going on, you experience life
And that gives you the resolve to start accepting others again
For even though you think the grass is greener on the other side,
It is better to have grass than a barren hillside
And that is how you form bonds as you walk life
You know that there is goodness abound, but also evil rife
You learn to trust some and stay on guard with others
Both of these, however, shape your entire journey
As you reach the end, you look back and realize
‘Life has its seasons too’, you smile as the light leaves your eyes
