Father

Father

A Poem by Sage
"

Fathers are the least appreciated people in a family. I've written this for my father and this is long overdue.

"
Father

It must have been about 6 minutes
Since I was out of my primary home
The nurse called you in, and you rushed
Funny, how big I was since I started as a genome

You held me, eyes brimming with tears
Not tears of  the bad sort,  just full of joy
Held me high up, proud of me already
You must have felt 'Look at him! This is my boy!'

I started growing up, with love from you and mum
Life was fair to us, we were happy
You used to be back home soon, to spend time with us
Never once were we unhappy

Then came my school, your work started getting heavy
You would spend less time than before, but I did not know why
We got used to this, and then the next best thing we knew happened
After a long time, I heard my little sister's first cry!

You took time again, to nurture this little princess
All four of us were together again for a long time
The little one started growing at an amazing pace
The only way to describe this wonderful feeling was sublime

We both grew up, both in age and wisdom
Thanks to your guidance and affection
You did not show out much, I still do not know
How much burden and pain do you carry with perfection

You are not my superhero
You are my hero, that no superhero can be
With all your strength, wisdom, love for us always
Now that I've grown up, I won't let you down just you see

  Dear father, thanks in earnest
You've taught us things no one else could
Maybe one day in the future, I'll understand
The love, wisdom and joy of fatherhood

A wonderfully written tribute to your father, and fatherhood in general. One always hears many stories of bad parents, it's so refreshing to read a vivid description of a loving dad and mom. I am gladly accepting your friend request, but I ask that you send me read requests for the writes you'd like me to review; I have a hard time otherwise trying to keep up with all of my friends' writing. Nice to "meet you." take care...dan

You capture the essence of being a father: I still do not know How much burden and pain do you carry with perfection.

Genuine and authentic writing, well done.

Thank you Mr. Muls! Your words are appreciated.
Sounds like you had a very decent family, a good hard working Father and great memories to remember :) I like that! :)

I like this piece because of the flow and sentiment it clearly has to the writer. It's not an unattached piece that reads much like a hallmark card; it's more than that because the emotion behind it is genuine. A father, I'm sure, would be emotionally moved by receiving something written in such a well crafted skill as you have displayed!

This really is beautiful, the first verse gave me chills. I like that in S1, you're not really sure where the poem is going. It could be dark or full of love. The poem meanders and takes a lot of tones and ranges many strong emotions. All of the feelings of growing up wrapped into one. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful!!! Wonderful and heartfelt tribute to your Dad! I became emotional with happiness for you and your sister...many of us never had that...what a gift, like my children, they have a excellent father...I am doubly happy to see you honor him this way....I sure hope you showed this to him, it will mean the world! BRAVO!!!!

I believe a wordsmiths duty of which I can hardly call myself. Have an obligation to help others define their memories. Which are many magical moments. Some truly never experienced the joy of having loving parents. Those of us that did should sing sbout it. Some people find error in what are grest parents. Missing one of lifes treasures. I love your poetry young sage. Dig deeper... Ill stay tuned

I can understand how you feel about your father.... or the feelings you'd like to have had for him.... I don't have my parents in my life.... Haven't since i was 2 years old.... It took me there...... I imagined how it would feel to have my father have those feelings for me..... Nice work......

Honest and nicely written piece on being grateful. I like how you described the whole family topic by a sort of life line, memories create a story that reaches from the past to the present.
