Caged

Isolated from the world

That you once knew

Kept in a cage

From everything you wanted to do

Your wings spread full

But no where to fly

You just lay in your cell

Withering till you die

 

Such a beautiful Angel

Laying there silent

The sign reads beware

She may be violent

Why not put up a fight

To be free again

To soar thru the heavens

As her heart mends

 

So I reach for her cage

Open the rusty little lock

Her heart sang to me

Like the ticking of a clock

She flew thru the skies

And smiled for the first time

With that smile she stole

                                   The very heart that was mine

This is beautiful and sad. You set her free and rejoiced in seeing her happy while at the same time broken-hearted. I bet she knows what you sacrificed and will treasure your heart, but birds are meant to fly as freely as the human spirit.
