21st Century Prophets

21st Century Prophets

A Poem by Samantha ~virginpoet

We Poets are
21st Century Prophets
filling up notebooks
and screaming on stages

We connect in a fashion
as we wear words

We dance on pages
stripping naked
to get you to listen
like what we
have to say
can be heard
better by eyes
but only 4%
of the public
suffers with
Sinestesia

And still we slash
our wrists with ballpoint pens
to get our souls heard

Hanging our pain like paintings
in an art exhibit entitled
"Emotional Poets"

Wanting
Waiting
Wishing
for an
Art Critic
to tare
us apart

Letter by letter
word for word

Because...

Because we are so
tightly put together

That we love
to be torn apart

We turn
the pain
into art
and scars
into deeply
embedded
ink wells

Don't you see?

We 21st Century
Prophets
hold the keys to our
broken heart cages
by wielding pens in ways
that spark thought

Cant you see?

Our wrists are still tender
yet we slash them open
again and again because...

Because writers block
is a far far worse
form of torture

And never
being read
is a fate
worse than death

Author's Note

Samantha ~virginpoet
you can find the word poets in prophets thus inspiring the whole poem

This feels like one of those never done poems ... permanently under construction lol

This says it all! We are poets and you have captured our essence with your wonderful words. Yes, we NEED to express ourselves and we want to be read...to touch other lives and to reach out across the world. So emotive and very powerful. Great work. Lydi**

Wow, this is simply amazing Samantha. I am speechless. I love this. The title, the different font sizes, and the message behind the poem all caught my attention. I only found one mistake unless it was meant that way: Wanting
Waiting
Wishing
for an
Art Critic
to tare (**tear)
us apart

you are welcome, oh okay gotcha:)
The thing about a great poet is they expose their deepest thoughts, scariest fears and most fragile emotions so that they can show readers that they are not alone in being vulnerable and imperfect. I absolutely love this poem.

Reading this a year later still feels fresh and full of vigor!
You ooze the blood of a Poet!
There is no denying that each word screams to be heard....
The emotional tornado an artist holds within must be set free or else we die inside....
what's worse?... words die...

Amazing write!

This is perfect... (sorry, no rip at this). putting our emotions down in full view or in riddles seems to be the only way to constructively let the beast roam free... telling truths most likely best left untold to the masses, though Ive never been afraid of the truth, and never been afraid to lie... I must say, truth is this is a pen of perfection.

Strange, intense, deep and riddled with pain!

I only ran across your work by chance having read Stevo's, but how lucky that was! This shows every bit as much of a gift. Aptly worded and wonderfully rhythmic. It simply blows me away.

I ask myself this question too. Do we write to be read or to purge our souls? Is the glory in delivering the words or in knowing their effect?
I guess a little bit of everything at given times. Truth is seldom one dimensional, or even three dimensional. Truth has its own black hole of irresistible gravity. Poets are the ones who have seen the event horizon of this enigma... A sharing of experience.
Write on! Great poetry.
