White Spaces

Your presence
fills the white spaces
between my words

When I read you
from the pages 
of my ink stained
notebook

Your dark secrets
brought to life
in cheap poems
that never capture
the stories tattooed
on your skin
 
And I've traced the crooked lines
nightly deciphering the clues 
you refuse to answer aloud

Though they whisper from your veins
in tongues I don't understand 
relentlessly taunting my curiosity 
until I touch them again in silent pleas
