I Feel That I May Be Out Of Line
It was blue when I looked at your face
And blue in the eyes of my saving grace
And blue cause the color is cool like your breath
And blue cause it was the summer we’d pray to never regret
(And blue cause it was the summer we'd pray to never regret)
It was the touch of your fingertips on my lips
And the loss of innocence as my hands felt yours hips
And the deep intensity of our eyes as yours met mine
And oh, how the moon shot through those eyes
(And oh, how the moon shot through those eyes)
I swore I had seen all there was to see of the sea
And then you came uncharted (yeah, you came uncharted)
And then you took my lost ship and you docked it on safe harbor (you docked it on safe harbor)
And as I stepped onto the pier to my disbelief I turned to see the water had grown calmer; (the water had grown calmer)
And I fell to my knees as I began to pray and scream
“Don’t you dare stray from me!”
And then your steady voice rang through to my ears
And the pier and the waves and the bay disappeared
And that’s when I realized that happiness is not in the same place at all
It’s what happens when you finally let them let you fall
No, happiness is not the same place at all
It’s what happens when you let them (when you finally let them fall)
Your soothing fingers crawl up my shaking spine
Can you feel that I feel I may be out of line?
And as my face drops to your beating chest
And your lips are pressed to my forehead
And never have I felt what I’m feeling tonight in this one single bed
Your body may stay wrapped in mine till this cold winters end
And I’ll use the last of my breath to breathe warmth onto your skin
And I’ll use my lips to seal the battle wounds left open from war
From all the sore thumbs that left you slung across the open floor
They’re the ones you entrusted your worth in and
They took your worth and sold it on the cheap for their debts
And it took every inch, every mile to keep me from breaking you free
Cause it takes wanting to let go before you can let it release
And you, you were just a lonely girl watching the sea
Kicking your feet, listening to the music between the sea and the piers beat
In the near distance you see the light coming from a side you had never seen before
The uncharted water already delivers more
(The uncharted water already delivers more)
Your waving arms brings my boat to dock safe harbor
But it was the beat of your heart that brought me back in
My head on your bare chest and your arm on my shaking spine
And I think it’s safe to say you were meant to be mine.
