Roses

Roses

A Poem by Requiem Bane
"

The truth behind the image...

"

 Roses,

Such lovely things to behold.
All dew and fragrance,
Yet sadly, this rose is a lie.
Under the lovely petals,
Amidst the green of it's life stem,
There are sharp and cruel things.
Thorns.
Painful and unfair to the one who wish to hold it.
Thorns are no longer as painful,
Roses are no longer as bright.

The image has become a lie.

i loved this, it makes me think once more about a rose! ;) and yet the poem was deep, thoughtful, and intriguing. A great mix. Thank you for sharing this with us. great job. :)

Roses naturally have thorns, so they should be included in their equation of beauty. They are there to keep something fragile from being molested. I don't think the beauty is a lie. I think cruel things exist simultaneously with beauty so we can tell the difference between the two.

I like it. The last line nails it, but I feel the middle is a little too straight-forward, a little too angsty. Just my $0.02.
